St. Andrew's Book Group will read and discuss The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. Published in 1985, this dystopian novel is set in a near-future New England state, the Republic of Gilead, which has overthrown the US government. The narrator, Offred, is a "Handmaid," a woman who is forcibly assigned to produce children for the "Commanders," the ruling class in Gilead.
