Conclave (2024)
Rated PG
2 hours
Conclave unfolds over a tension-riddled 72 hours, depicting a gripping confrontation between tradition, politics, and faith as it speculates on the role of religion in a rapidly changing world. The film, based on the novel by Richard Harris, stars Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, and Isabella Rossellini. Following the unexpected death of the Pope, cardinals from all over the world gather at the Vatican and sequester themselves as they prepare to elect a new leader. Cardinal Lawrence (Fiennes) oversees the
proceedings, assuming that the contest will come down to a battle between the reactionary, openly racist Cardinal Tedesco (Sergio Castellitto) and the liberal progressive Cardinal Bellini (Tucci). But matters soon become complicated as rumors circulate, secrets emerge, and acts of sabotage are undertaken.
Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
