Advent Series for Adults “The Incarnation” Canterbury Hall
|
All adults are invited to participate in an Advent series during the education hour in December focused on the Incarnation, of course!
The education hour begins at 9:15, with coffee and snacks to enjoy both before and during class time. Don’t miss this fun and informative offering for adults!
Here’s what’s happening:
Sunday, 12/4, Incarnation in Place – What did the manger really look like? How far did the shepherds travel to honor the new-born Jesus? What was Jesus’ home like? Marion Schwartz will share some pictures from her recent pilgrimage to the Holy Land of the sites associated with Jesus’ birth, and lead discussion on what we can learn from the historical settings described in the biblical narratives.
Sunday, 12/11, The Incarnation in Art – Carol Robie’s love and knowledge of art is well-known to a number of St. Andrew’s parishioners. Join Carol as she shares pictures of some of the artworks depicting the biblical events associated with the birth of Jesus. The pictures will be of depictions both known and unknown, so some surprises are in order for participants! Discussion of the narratives that gave rise to the artworks will explore the various influences – sociological, cultural and familial – present in the art.
Sunday, 12/18, The Incarnation in Music – Gwen Catchen and Walter Wells will lead an exploration of the rich tradition of music focused on the Incarnation, music that brings the story of Jesus’ birth to life. This celebration of music will look at traditional and non-traditional works, with the goal of providing a deeper appreciation of the works.
