About Us
Saint Andrew’s is a large parish in the heart of a vibrant university community and welcomes all people interested in worship that is prayer-book centered in the tradition of the Anglican Communion. A more contemporary Eucharist also has gained a devoted following that has in recent years enhanced and broadened our spiritual offerings. With its location near the Penn State University campus, the educational and cultural opportunities for parishioners are immeasurable.
The church is integral to community outreach not only by its close proximity to the university, the regional library, schools and community athletic fields, but also by its highly visible presence in the heart of downtown State College, where the community gathers for sporting events, theater productions, parades, activities and annual events such as the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts and First Night State College.
Within our walls there exists an active church life focused on the liturgy and strong Christian education that includes adult forums and a thriving, visible youth program. Book groups and Bible studies, companion parish and prayer shawl ministries, Stephen Ministry, Education for Ministry, Daughters of the King, continental breakfast, coffee hour and a lively and growing music program comprising adult and children’s choirs represent just a few of the active groups that fill a typical week. And the central location of the church provides endless opportunities to open our doors to others, including a weekly soup kitchen, numerous 12-step groups, concert performances, art exhibits and fundraisers.
With God’s help, we the people of Saint Andrew’s will strive to know and accept God’s love in Jesus Christ for people of all sorts and conditions, and to witness to God’s love in word and action.
