Adult Forum – Food of the Gods: Theological Reflections on Chocolate

Karl Zimmerer is a geographer and environmental scientist—and isalso in the rural sociology and ecology programs at Penn State—who studies sustainable land use and food systems through the use of agrobiodiversity and seed and knowledge networks. In this forum, Karl will describe the current paradox of chocolate. The many forms of chocolate that we love and cherish have evolved through worldwide production of the cacao tree. Cacao is increasingly valued and championed even as the roots of its cultural and ecological well-being are imperiled. Karl will share his theological reflections to describe and discuss the promise and peril of chocolate and cacao.
