Food Deserts and Food Waste
Ted Jaenicke will share his expertise on Food deserts, defined as urban neighborhoods and rural towns without ready access to fresh, healthy, and affordable food. About 23.5 million people in the U.S. are living in food deserts, and more than half of those people are low-income.
Food waste also negatively impacts the hungry in impoverished communities. Roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year – approximately 1.3 billion tonnes – gets lost or wasted.  Nearly half of the produce grown is wasted. If just one-fourth of the food currently lost or wasted globally could be saved, it would be enough to feed 870 million #hungry people in the world.

All adults are invited. Come a little early for coffee and something to eat, if you like.
